Joanna and Anthony are a rare couple. So rare, that I knew I wanted to go on a road trip with them upon minutes of meeting them! The reason being, I knew there was so much more I wanted to discover about these two, and I knew just from the little time that we spent during our initial meeting that we would have a blast together! Anthony is practically my long-lost twin, haha! We have a lot in common, we both have a deep appreciation for art and design, we’re extreme coffee lovers, and happen to be madly in love with the beautiful ladies in our lives that God has blessed us with. And Joanna, my goodness. She truly completes Anthony. Joanna loves art as well, is an INCREDIBLY talented artist, singer, performer, photographer, and soo much more (now you know why I wanted to hop in a car with them and just talk! Haha)… Joanna and Anthony are both performers and met onstage playing romantic opposites. They quickly realized that they had so much in common beyond performing and their work relationship slowly transitioned into a much stronger and significant relationship.
I brought up the idea of venturing off to the amazingly picturesque land of Joshua Tree for Joanna and Anthony’s Engagement Session, and I was so excited when they agreed to hop in a car with me and take a 3-hour road trip to the desert. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. Our Session comprised of the following: BLOOD, SWEAT, and TEARS. Within the first 5 minutes of our Session, excited, eager and not completely aware of my new desert surroundings, I managed to thrust the back of my head into the ever-so-piercing Joshua Tree Cactus! I’m telling you, it felt like knives! At first, with all the adrenaline pumping through my veins, I thought I was fine until I put my hand over my head and felt what I thought was sweat. Then I glanced at my hand and saw blood. Yes, my head began to bleed at a rapid rate. After a quick inspection, Anthony confirmed it wasn’t anything too serious so I quickly washed up and jumped right back into photographing. WHATEVER IT TAKES! :) Joanna would soon inform us that after reading the Joshua Tree informative newsletter, the desert animals kill their prey by driving them into the Joshua Tree Cactus. Hmm. I believe it! If only I would’ve known that sooner, haha! I walked away with a battle wound (or two) but it was totally worth it.
Toward the end of our Session, we had a candle that we wanted to incorporate in our images as the sun began to slowly set. I handed Joanna the candle and asked her to hold it so I can snap a few photos. As she did, she looked like an angel. I looked behind me to find tears streaming down Anthony’s face. Perhaps I had caught a glimpse of what Anthony had realized the moment he met her – he is about to marry his angel. That moment was truly a moment I will never forget. These two are so in love with each other it is ridiculously contagious. Their laughter. Their interaction. The look they have when they look into each other’s eyes. Everything about their relationship is beautiful and pure. And Natalia and I are beyond excited to document their Wedding Day this Spring!
I can’t even begin to express how IN LOVE Natalia and I are with the outcome of Joanna and Anthony’s Engagement Session! I can’t remember the last time we were so excited to share images with the rest of you. We are Joanna and Anthony’s biggest fans, and we think you will be too after seeing them together. So without further adieu, below is the outcome of our trek to Joshua Tree National Park with Joanna and Anthony. Enjoy!
